Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Janet Hayes, who will demonstrate working with pastels.

Janet is an award winning artist and mainly works in pastels, being attracted to their unique texture, the possibility of glowing colour and the variety of artwork achievable from a quick sketch to a more detailed, finished painting.

Janet studied at the Melbourne College of Decoration in the mid seventies, then with Melbourne artist/teacher Con Pappas before twice travelling to New York to study pastel portraiture with portraitist, artist, tutor Daniel Greene in the mid eighties.

Among several awards Janet Hayes has received is the Allied Artists of America Award at the Pastel Society of America annual exhibition, New York City in 1993.

This demonstration will be of interest to any artists wanting to explore using pastels.

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Tang Ying, who will demonstrate working with watercolours.

Tang Ying is a member of Yarra Valley Open Studios. She describes herself as “… a watercolourist. My works style is between realistic and abstract, bold lines and attention to the details of the performance. My works show a variety of watercolour compositions, figures, flowers, animals and landscapes.
There are many elements of Chinese painting in my style.”

She also says that “…I love the beauty of Australia. Recently, I have been trying to depict the beautiful scenery of Melbourne suburbs and the Yarra Valley.”

This demonstration will be of interest to any artists wanting to explore some different forms of watercolour painting.

A small, active Art Society in the Yarra Valley is looking for demonstrators.

Our enthusiastic members appreciate learning about the techniques of artists keen to pass on their talents.

Meeting February 2016

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Bev Hardidge, who will demonstrate working with mixed media.

Bev is a member of Yarra Valley Open Studios and Mount Evelyn and Yarra Valley Arts Society. She describes herself as “… mainly a self taught artist who has completed several short courses. I enjoy trying different styles of painting and experimenting with mediums and textures to create interest. I am inspired by what I observe on our property and surrounding environment. I also enjoy encouraging others to paint.”

This demonstration will be of interest to both beginners and experienced artists wanting to try the many different forms of mixed media techniques.

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Alex Holzer, who will demonstrate a variety of Hydrocryl acrylic paints. He will be supported in the demonstration by one of our own experienced members, Pamela Gordon.

Alex is a manager at Hydrocryl Pty. Ltd., which markets a wide range of professional quality acrylic paints. The paints are environmentally friendly and non-toxic.

This demonstration will be of interest to both beginners and experienced artists wanting to improve their acrylic painting techniques.

Demonstration – The guest speaker this month will be Pam Vickers, who will talk about her recent overseas trip to the England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Switzerland and Germany.

Pam is an experienced photographer, who uses many of her photos as subjects for her paintings. She will focus on a small selection of photos that will be of particular interest to artists.

This demonstration will be of interest to both beginners and experienced artists wanting to explore new and interesting subjects for their paintings.

Meeting September 2015

Date – Sunday 13 September 2015 – instead of Fathers’ Day
Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm

Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Kevin Boucher, who will demonstrate a variety techniques for painting with oils.

Kevin is a local artist, and operates the Kevin Boucher School of Fine Arts in Mount Evelyn in the Yarra Ranges.

Kevin paints on location throughout Victoria. Using the ‘Atelier Primer Technique’ (acrylic under oil paint), Kevin takes home dry underpaintings which he then finishes in the studio. He particularly enjoys working in the Yarra Valley, the Dandenong Ranges, along the coastline and into the High Country.

This demonstration will be of interest to both beginners and experienced artists wanting to improve their oil painting techniques.

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Lynette Orzlowski. She will demonstrate a range  of pastel techniques.

Since early childhood, living in rural Victoria, Lynette’s passion for art and nature was very apparent. As a child she loved to collect books about animals and horses and spent most of her time out riding with her beloved Anglo Arab.

Lynette has experimented with a variety of mediums and styles with most of her recent work being created with a mixture of both brush, airbrush and now pastel.

She enjoys painting a wide variety of wildlife subjects. However, wild, candid and or posed, equine subjects are the ones that hold a special meaning in her heart and they have been a reoccurring theme in her art since childhood.

Through her depictions of the natural beauty found around us, Lynette hopes to inspire the world.

She is currently a member of AGRA (Australian Guild of Realist Artists), WASA (Wildlife Artist Society Australasia), IA (Illustrators Australia), YRPS (Yarra Ranges Photographic Society) & PSVA (Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia Inc).

This demonstration will be of special interest to those wanting to improve their pastel techniques.

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Antoinette Blyth. She will demonstrate a diversity of watercolour techniques, with a focus on flowers.

 

Antoinette holds a Bachelor of Education specializing in art, photography and performing arts. Watercolour has always been the medium that has fascinated her. Although she began her painting life in oils, it was always her desire to paint in watercolour.
In October 2005, Antoinette had her first solo Exhibition in watercolour, at Very Special Kids Gallery in Malvern Victoria. Since then, she has won many awards and her works are in collections around Australia and overseas.
As well as the passion for using water and colour to form the magic associated with this medium, Antoinette seeks to convey the emotion and love of what she is painting to the viewer, hence her florals, as she loves her garden and finds tranquility and space working there.

This demonstration is a must for those wanting to improve their watercolour techniques.

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Gabriele Pelling. She will demonstrate scratchboard techniques. Scratchboard is a very old art form, and has recently undergone a revival. Gabriele has taken up the challenge and produced some very striking work since she began to learn the techniques.

So if you would like learn more about scratchboard and see how Gabriele uses this medium, make sure you come along.

This will also provide a great opportunity to share ideas and techniques.
