June 2017 Meeting

Date – Sunday 4 June 2017
Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm
Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – The demonstrator this month will be Nadine Dudek, who will be demonstrating watercolours. Nadine is a well-known local artist who has exhibited at many of the art shows in Melbourne, including the Knox Art Show, Warrandyte Art Show, Hobson’s Bay Art Show and Yarra Glen Art Show. She has been awarded First Prize at a number of these shows.

Nadine is a member of Victorian Artists’ Society and A.G.R.A.

She says of herself:

“Born in Melbourne and growing up in Canberra, I have a passion for wildlife art with a particular affinity for birds. Now based in Melbourne, I continue to develop a fluid style using watercolour as my primary medium. Watercolour performs beautifully to capture the movement and freedom of the subjects I paint. For me the most rewarding paintings are those with the fewest strokes, created with a minimalistic approach. In 2015 I left my twenty-year career as a research scientist to become a professional artist. The decision to paint full-time has been rewarded with numerous successful solo exhibitions and award winning paintings.”

We are privileged to have Nadine for our demonstration, which will no doubt provide fresh perspectives on watercolour painting.

Julie was fortunate to be born into the artistic Ricketts family. As a child she spent many hours watching her grandfather paint in the shed out the back when he came to live with the family. She also spent time playing at her uncle William’s sanctuary in the Dandenongs. Later in life this helped her to understand and appreciate his magnificent art works and the message he was trying to convey.

Julie lived in the Dandenongs for many years, before moving to the Yarra Valley in the early 1980’s which is where she now draws most of her inspiration.

Janicke was born in Norway, raised in Adelaide, and now lives in Melbourne, which she describes as “very creative and always changeable”.

Of her career, Janicke says, “I have been creating art my whole life, but it wasn’t until 2009 that I took a leap of faith, quit my teaching job and went head first into my art.  There has been no clear path or set of directions; however, I continue to strive for success and artistic fulfillment.”

As an artist, she says, “My art work is interpretive and modern, combining textures, patterns and intense colours to create responses to my environment and memory. Colour is dripped, sprayed, scraped and splashed onto the canvas and then blocked out with bold whites and muted colours to create the final image. There are recurring themes such as people, flora and fauna that emerge from my work, often with a quirky playfulness about them. I also create sculptures using recycled plastic, tape and wire as the core of the piece with a papier mache and plaster covering to create a stone like appearance.”

Janicke’s art is featured at Happy Hubbub Co Working Space, which was recently featured on the Sunrise morning TV show.

As an artist who is “passionate about my art and the environment” and whose “ambition is to continue to limit further environmental impact and to pass on this message to current and future artists”, Janicke “reuses, reduces and recycles when creating her art and in her day to day life”.

Janicke’s demonstration promises to be lively, and full of new ideas and points of interest.
