Demonstration – The demonstrator this month will be Janicke Johansen, who will be working in acrylic. She will focus on demonstrating contemporary styles of painting.
Janicke was born in Norway, raised in Adelaide, and now lives in Melbourne, which she describes as “very creative and always changeable”.
Of her career, Janicke says, “I have been creating art my whole life, but it wasn’t until 2009 that I took a leap of faith, quit my teaching job and went head first into my art. There has been no clear path or set of directions; however, I continue to strive for success and artistic fulfillment.”
As an artist, she says, “My art work is interpretive and modern, combining textures, patterns and intense colours to create responses to my environment and memory. Colour is dripped, sprayed, scraped and splashed onto the canvas and then blocked out with bold whites and muted colours to create the final image. There are recurring themes such as people, flora and fauna that emerge from my work, often with a quirky playfulness about them. I also create sculptures using recycled plastic, tape and wire as the core of the piece with a papier mache and plaster covering to create a stone like appearance.”
Janicke’s art is featured at Happy Hubbub Co Working Space, which was recently featured on the Sunrise morning TV show.
As an artist who is “passionate about my art and the environment” and whose “ambition is to continue to limit further environmental impact and to pass on this message to current and future artists”, Janicke “reuses, reduces and recycles when creating her art and in her day to day life”.
Janicke’s demonstration promises to be lively, and full of new ideas and points of interest.
