September 2013 Meeting

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Maureen King, who will be working in oils.

The focus of Maureen’s demonstration will be tips for beginners, so if oils are a new medium for you, this will be an excellent way to get started.

Maureen is a very accomplished artist and a long-term member of the Society. For many years, Maureen taught at community houses and other venues, so she has plenty of experience in teaching the various techniques she will demonstrate.

While the demonstration will be of particular interest to beginners, experienced artists will also benefit from Maureen’s vast experience.

July 2013 Meeting

Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Pamela Gordon, who will be working in pastel, her preferred medium.

Pamela is a very accomplished artist and a long-term member of the Society. She exhibits regularly at various venues in the Yarra Valley and has participated in a number of open studio events. A member of the Healesville Art Alliance, Pamela’s works are represented in a number of leading local galleries and art venues.

This demonstration is sure to be interesting and inspiring for artists with all levels of experience, whether or not they have worked with pastel and the techniques Pamela will demonstrate.

Date – Wednesday 29 May 2013
Venue – Warratina Lavender Farm – Quayle Road, Wandin (Melways 121 F1).
Time – 10:00am
Warratina is one of our favourite venues for painting. With beautiful gardens, interesting buildings and stunning views of the ranges of the Yarra Valley, there a plenty of subjects for artists. Shelter is available if it is raining.

While morning tea, coffee and food are available in the cafe, you are also welcome to BYO lunch.

June 2013 Meeting

Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Diana Jackson, who will be working in watercolour.

Diana is an award winning artist gaining her first award in 1994. She teaches art and her works are represented in a number of leading galleries.

This demonstration is sure to be interesting for artists with all levels of experience, whether or not they have worked with the medium and techniques Diana will demonstrate.

Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Craig Penny, who works in a range of traditional and modern mediums.

Craig needs little introduction, being one of Australia’s very well known and sought after artists. He has studied art at Ballarat University and taught at various educational institutions, including Swinburne and Victoria Universities. His work is represented in a number of leading galleries.

This demonstration is sure to be interesting for artists with all levels of experience, whether or not they have worked with the medium and techniques Craig will demonstrate.

March 2013 Paintout

Date – Wednesday 27 March 2013
Venue – The Arts Centre – Warburton Highway, Warburton (low side).
Time – 10:00am
The initial activity will be a walk through the Centre to view the “Upper Yarra Artisans” Art Exhibition. Then we’ll take a gentle stroll down to the Yarra River for some plein air painting.

While morning tea and coffee are available, BYO lunch.

April 2013 Meeting

Date – Sunday 7 April 2013
Time – 1:30pm
Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Barbara McManus, who will focus on working in pastel.

Barbara needs little introduction, being one of Australia’s very well known and sought after pastel and oil artists. She is highly regarded for her impressionistic work in both figure and character studies, which feature prominently in her work.

This demonstration is sure to be interesting for artists with all levels of experience, whether or not they have worked with this medium, as it will cover a range of different portraiture and pastel techniques. As a member of the Victorian Artist’s Society, Barbara is an experienced artist and demonstrator, so make sure you reserve the date for an informative and enjoyable afternoon.

39th Annual Knox Art Exhihition

The Rotary Club of Bayswater is holding the 39th Annual Knox Art Exhibition from 12th to 14th April 2013 at the Knox Community Art Centre, Corner of Scoresby Road and Mountain Highway, Bayswater. The Exhibition is open to all artists wishing to enter their original work and will offer prizes in the following categories:

  • Best Oil/Acrylic
  • Best Water Colour/Work on Paper
  • Best Pastel
  • Best Painting – All Mediums
  • Best Pair – All Mediums

This outstanding exhibition is one of the premier art shows in Melbourne and attracts artists from all over Australia. Typically, over 500 works of art are exhibited.

All proceeds from the Exhibition go towards assisting people in need. This year, one of the major beneficiaries will be the Eastern Ranges School (Autism Spectrum Disorder), which focuses on the education of P-12 students with various forms of autism.

Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Gabrielle Pelling, who specialises in scratchboarding. Gabrielle is a pupil of Alan Close, our February demonstrator, and in two years has gone from a talented silk painter to being a leading figure in scratchboarding. As a frequent exhibitor at various art exhibitions, Gabrielle has won many awards for her work, including Best Open at the art exhibition at the 2012 Lilydale Show.

This demonstration will be very different from some of our recent ones, and is sure to be interesting for artists with all levels of experience, so make sure you reserve the date for an informative and enjoyable afternoon.
