“Paynes Rise Winery” incorporates one of the most historic buildings of the Yarra Valley, the 1860’s homestead and property of Seville’s first settler, Thomas Payne. A small, boutique winery, Paynes Rise boasts outstanding views of the surrounding valley. There are plenty of other natural features to capture the artist’s imagination from the beauty of the colouring vines to the scenic views of the Australian landscape. In the background are the imposing peaks of the Great Dividing Range in and around Warburton. So the site offers a wide variety of subjects for artists with a love for the natural beauty of the Yarra Ranges.

For those needing refreshments, BYO lunch as only coffee will be available that day.

April 2012 Workshop

Date – 29 April 2012
Time – 10:00am to 3:00pm
Venue – Mount Evelyn and Yarra Valley Art Society Meeting Place – Coldstream
Workshop Presenter – Alan Close
Subject – Travel Sketching and Water Colour

In this Workshop, Alan will show how to turn your holiday photos into exciting paintings, with a focus on Travel Sketching and Water Colour Painting.

The format will be:

  • 10 am to 12 noon – Travel Sketching
  • 12 noon to 12:45pm – BYO Lunch
  • 12:45pm to 3pm – Step by Step Waterclour, both demonstration and hands-on.

The requirements for the Workshop are:

  1. 300g arches or rough Water Colour paper – 1-2 full sheets or large pad – 1/4 sheet size
  2. Water Colours – basic set of colours
  3. Water Container
  4. Waterproof floor or table covering
  5. A3 size backing board
  6. Water Colour brushes – round or flat wash, fine or your choice
  7. Eraser
  8. Black Bird HB-2B-4B pencils
  9. Sketching pad or paper
  10. Masking tape
  11. Tissues

This Workshop promises to be a really valuable for artists with any level of experience.

38th Annual Knox Art Exhibition

The Rotary Club of Bayswater is holding the 38th Annual Knox Art Exhibition from 4th to 6th May 2012 at the Knox Community Art Centre, Mountain Highway, Bayswater. The Exhibition is open to all artists wishing to enter their original work and will offer prizes in the following categories:

  • Best Oil/Acrylic
  • Best Water Colour/Work on Paper
  • Best Pastel
  • Best Painting – All Mediums
  • Best Pair – All Mediums

“Blue Lotus Water Garden” is a commercial nursery with a 14 acre display garden of exotic lotus and waterlillies. The property is bounded by the Little Yarra River and Brittania Creek, with two lakes, river flats and many other natural features to capture the artist’s imagination. In the background are the imposing peaks of the Great Dividing Range, including Mount Donna Buang. So the site is rich in subjects for artists with a love for the natural beauty of the Yarra Ranges.

For those needing refreshments, there is a cafe serving food and drinks.

April 2012 Meeting

Time – 1:30pm
Demonstration – The demonstration will be given by Terrianne Murray, who will illustrate techniques using either Pastel or Oil. Terrianne is an experienced local artist and her demonstration is sure to be interesting and informative. Make sure you reserve the date for an enjoyable and educational afternoon.
