March 2020 Meeting

Demonstration – This month, we will hold the 2020 Annual General Meeting.

There will not be a time for a demonstration, but plenty of opportunity to discuss future events.

All members are encouraged to attend and have your say.

February 2020 Meeting

Date – Sunday 2 February 2020

Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm

Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – This month, our demonstrator will be Robert Knight, who will be working with charcoal and acrylic.

Born in Melbourne, Robert, has been painting since the mid-eighties. His style has been described as contemporary realism with a design element.

Robert Knight paints cityscapes, landscapes and nature, all with a contemporary take on realism. Of his work, it is said that it is “as if he constantly has his eye on country, and conveys it to canvas for the viewer.”

With his varied and interesting techniques, Robert will help us start the new year by challenging us to try some different methods and media.

November 2019 Meeting

Date – Sunday 3 November 2019

Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm

Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – This month, our demonstrator will be Elizabeth Nyssen, of Cortella Homewares, Yarra Junction.

Elizabeth is also an accomplished artist, and will demonstrate some of her painting techniques.

At her studio in Yarra Glen, there is an array of finished art pieces on display.

Elizabeth says of her artwork:

“My passion is working with paint, jel printing and sewing on paper and fabric. I also have a love for flowers and creating large art works using
acrylic paints.”

With her broad knowledge and wealth of experience, Elizabeth will undoubtedly inspire us to try some different techniques and media.

October 2019 Meeting

Demonstration – This month, our demonstrator will be Geoffrey Carron. His subject will be painting with acrylics.

Geoffrey specialises in painting wildlife, especially birds, using a variety of techniques.

With his wealth of knowledge and experience, Geoffrey will undoubtedly inspire us to try some different acrylic techniques.

Yarra Valley Observed

An exhibition by the Society’s talented artists covering a wide variety of subjects inspired by the Yarra Valley.

September 2019 Meeting

(Note: As the first Sunday in September is Fathers’ Day, our meeting this month will be a week later than usual.)

Demonstration – This month, our demonstrator will be Craig Penny. His subject will be painting with acrylics.

Craig is a well known Melbourne based artist.

Born in Mildura, Craig has shown an interest in art and drawing from a very young age and has created a successful career as a professional artist.

Craig describes his background and career is this way:

“Studying art at Ballarat University, painting and graphic design claimed most of his attention allowing him to pursued a successful career in illustrator as a member of the Illustrators Association of Australia
for many years.
Craig has skills in a range of mediums including computer graphics.  
He taught both traditional drawing, illustration and digital drawing at both Victoria University and Swinburne University.

Craig never lost his love of using traditional methods and now specializes in watercolour, acrylic painting and illustration.”

Craig is a regular contributor to “The Australian Artist” magazine, and has exhibited his art widely. His numerous awards include:

August 2019 Meeting

Date – Sunday 4 August 2019

Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm

Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – This month, our demonstrator will be Rob Candy, who focus on watercolour.

Born in Melbourne, Rob began painting watercolours at Ku-ring-gai Arts Centre during the 1980’s with Owen Thompson, and at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales with Frederic Bates OAM.  He has a degree in Geography and this informs his analysis of and appreciation for the landscape.

Rob has been a  featured artist in the Australian Artist magazine, most recently in 2012. He has also been a featured artist in the Australian Artist magazine in October 1996, June 2002, September 2004 and November 2005.  The most recent of these articles examined his painting from Tuscany.

Rob is a member of the:

            Royal Art Society of NSW

Watercolour Society of Victoria

      Victorian Artist Society 

Rob has judged many art shows, including Lane Cove Art Society
